Chapter 10
Zoe
The bathroom? Weâre going to the bathroom?
In a mad dash, Ivan ushers me in, locks the door, and sits me on the long vanity. Leaning forward, he places his hands down next to my hips and stares into my eyes. The air is tense. Iâm supposed to be mad. I narrow my eyes, feigning anger, but his gaze is too intense, too loving. Iâm lost in the blue.
âSo.â His deep voice is warm honey, oozing over me.
âSo... whatâs the meaning of this?â I breathe.
âYou hate me, Zoe?â He raises an eyebrow and comes closer. Our lips are inches apart. The closest theyâve ever been.
I nod once, blink, then whisper, âOnly a little.â
âThen I need to change that.â I think I hear a low growl as his hand slides up my back and grips the nape of my neck. Thereâs no time to think. Another hand grasps my waist and slams my chest against his. Our lips crash. His tongue thrusts into my mouth and holy shit, Ivan Pavlenko is kissing me.
My shoulders slump. My arms wind around his back. My head goes limp, surrendering to this delightful assault on my senses. Iâm overwhelmed by his lips, his mouth, his taste and I donât want him to stop. Heâs feasting, groaning, devouring me and I feel it everywhere. Moaning with each flick of his tongue, my body shudders in response. As his hands explore, my body aches and begs for attention. My nipples tighten, my skin prickles and my breath falters, leaving me weak with the nastiest, silkiest, most intoxicating feeling Iâve ever felt. Iâm certain I hear music. Trumpets blaring. Drums banging. Saxophones....
Oh. The parade. It must be close.
âZoe, baby. I love you. Iâm sorry, I didnât tell you sooner.â His deep voice trembles as his lips trail long, slow kisses down my neck.
I feel faint. No, seriously. This is too much. This is the man Iâve thought about every single day since I was twelve years old and heâs just confessed his love while kissing my neck. A girl can only take so much. I sway forward and catch myself on his pecs, which feel a thousand times hotter than my virgin brain imagined. My jaw drops. Theyâre so hard. The dizziness takes my head.
âSweetheart, are you okay? Was it the door? Did I hit you hard?â Ivanâs hands frame my face and his sweet, soulful eyes gaze into mine. He loves me. Why did he wait so long? Why didnât he say something in Paris? Why is he saying it in a bathroom?
Iâm about to ask, when the last voice I want to hear slices through our silence.
âZOE! Where the hell are you? Snoopy and Charlie Brown are coming. You told me to give you a heads up or you were going to tear me a new one.â Itâs Gus. Heâs right. Those were my words.
âZOE!!!â He bangs on the door.
âIâll be right out! Damn it!â I shout.
âOh, okay. Hurry, theyâre making the turn at Columbus.â He gives two taps and walks off.
