Chapter 9

As Gabe entered the enclosed pool area, his eyes were drawn to shapely arms and legs gracefully slicing through the blue water. Even the way she turned her head from side to side to breathe as she swam was smoothly executed. His gaze traveled from her face down the length of her body, and he felt a tightening in his groin when his eyes lingered on her perfectly round butt in a purple bikini bottom. Going over to the lounge chair where her things were, Gabe pushed them aside and sat down.

Mesmerized by her fluid movement, Gabe remembered that she loved to swim. The summer they dated his parents had gone on a month long European vacation. He didn’t often take girls he dated to his parents’ home because half the time they were overly impressed with his parents’ wealth. After a while, subtle, sometimes bold, hints of marriage were dropped. He didn’t wait around for too many more gold-digging red flags before he ended the relationship.

One Saturday they spent the afternoon at the King Of Prussia Mall. Nancy wanted to go shopping to buy a swimsuit. She told him in her haste to get away from her mother, she hadn’t packed one. Daphne’s uncle promised to take them to the aquatic center where he was a member.

Strolling the mall hand in hand, he teased, “You’re not afraid to get your hair wet?”

Nancy laughed and elbowed him in the ribs. “No, I’m not. I love to swim.”

Wrapping his arm around her waist, he pulled her closer. “How long have you been swimming?”

“Since I was six. My mom was a single parent and she could only afford to pay for one activity. Swimming was something she could swing with the rest of the bills.”

“Your dad didn’t help take care of you?”

Nancy shrugged. “Yeah, but how much I don’t know. He was off getting married to someone else and starting another family.”

He squeezed her tight, not liking the sadness in her voice when she talked about her father. “Let’s get out of here. I want to show you something.”

Forty-five minutes later, Gabe was easing his black Lexus up the driveway and around back to a row of garages. When he glanced over, his gaze collided with Nancy’s. He could tell she wasn’t impressed with the enormous home or sprawling grounds. If anything the look on her face was one of caution.

“Is this what you wanted to show me? Are we trespassing?”

Gabe chuckled. “No and no,” he answered as he got out of the car and went around to her side to let her out.

Threading their fingers, he led her through the back door into a massive kitchen with upper and lower cabinets in white, state of the art appliances and an island large enough to seat ten people.

“Are you hungry?”

Nancy shook her head. “No, I’m good.”

“Cool,” was all he said as they took a left down a hallway that led to a glass door. When he opened the door and allowed her to enter first, she let out the loudest squeal.
