Ryleigh: Nope! Was just getting ready to make some lunch. What’s up?

Fallon: Any chance you can come over?

Ryleigh: Is everything okay? Do you need someone to watch Asher?

Fallon: Actually, I just needed someone to talk to

Ryleigh: Uh-oh…

Ryleigh: Give me 30 minutes and I’ll be there with lunch

Fallon: Thanks!

Twenty-seven minutes later, Ryleigh was at the door with a cooler bag in her hand.

“Hey! I hope you don’t mind, but I made a quiche this morning and some pasta salad and just brought that with me,” she said as she walked in.

“Are you kidding? That sounds fantastic. You didn’t have to bring anything, though. I could have made something here.”

“Nonsense. You have your hands full with Asher.” Pausing, she looked around. “Is he sleeping?”

Fallon nodded. “I just put him down, so we have time to talk.”

“Okay, whew!” Putting all the food out on the kitchen table while Fallon got plates and silverware and drinks, she asked, “Since we might have limited time, tell me what’s going on.”

It seemed like a good idea when she texted Ryleigh, but now she wondered if talking to Jamie’s sister about their personal relationship was the smart thing to do.

As if sensing her hesitation, Ryleigh looked over at her and smiled. “If this is about you and my brother, let me just say that we all know he’s into you. So, if your relationship has turned…uh…romantic…no one’s going to be surprised.”

“Oh. Really?”

“Yeah. We all saw it the day of the barbecue, so you can relax.” She sat down and began serving the food. “Is that what this is about? Are things good? Bad? Do you want out and don’t know how to leave and break things off? Is it weird for the two of you?”

Laughing, she held up a hand to stop her. “That is a lot of questions!”

“Well…like I said, we’re on a time crunch and I’m just trying to get things rolling.”

“Okay, so fast and to the point. Got it.” Pausing for a moment, Fallon tried to think of a way to delicately talk about this, but what ended up coming out was, “Jamie and I are sleeping together and I think I’m really falling for him and I don’t know what’s going to happen when Asher’s mom gets back and I’m freaking out because I don’t want to chase after some big career anymore!” She let out a long breath as she slouched in her chair. “Oh my God, did it feel good to get that out!”

Meanwhile, Ryleigh’s fork was perched halfway to her mouth as she stared at her with wide eyes. “Wow. Um…okay. That was…a lot of information.”

“You said you wanted to roll things along…”

“You’re right. My bad.”

“I’m sorry,” she blurted out. “This is weird, right?”

“No, no…it’s not that. Like I said, you and Jamie? I think that’s great. I kind of suspected it for a while, but never wanted to say anything. The part about Jenn? Believe me, we’re all worried about that. And the job thing? I’m a firm believer that there’s nothing wrong with changing your mind.
