Chapter 18

Warmth, comfort, and satisfaction surrounded Izabel as she slowly woke from a deep slumber. Rolling onto her back, with her eyes still closed, she stretched languorously as a happy smile curled her lips. Once she got past the uncomfortable explanation for her previous behavior, her night with Zach had been everything she had hoped it would be. Not only was he the most skillful lover she’d ever had, but he was also exceptionally tender, which had only strengthened the growing bond between them. More than just that certain something that zinged to life whenever they touched, their undeniable attraction—which had started when they first locked eyes at the wedding—had been reinforced by everything they’d done last night. Wonderful, glorious, or special didn’t even begin to explain how her time with Zack had felt.

Sometime during the night, he had kissed her, cradled her in his arms, and carried her to the bed, where they’d enjoyed a few more rounds of delicious lovemaking. Despite their lack of caution, she couldn’t bring herself to worry overmuch. They needed to talk about it and any possible consequences, but in the frenzy of the burning need they’d both surrendered to, it had slipped their minds. Normally she was much more careful about using protection, and she couldn’t figure out why she’d been so lax with Zack.

She had no idea what time it was now, but even with her eyes closed, it was clear that bright sunlight filtered into the small cabin through the huge front window. The rich aroma of coffee tickled her nose, and she slowly opened her eyes as she rolled onto her side.

Zach stood in the kitchen, wearing the same jeans and T-shirt from the night before.

Too bad, she thought, having looked forward to seeing his gorgeous nakedness one more time, but still pleased to find him there. For a moment, she simply stared, taking in every chiseled line of his large frame, completely enjoying the view.

He shuffled around the small room as if comfortable with it, clearly doing his best to keep from waking her. He appeared to be cooking at the huge stove near the back wall.

How could she have ever thought him anything but beautiful? He had a ruggedness about him, yes, but there was a sweet gentleness to him that she found utterly appealing. He was funny and kind, and she was already feeling things she knew she shouldn’t.

Just then, he turned to look at her and grinned. “Good morning, sunshine.”

“Morning,” she said as she held the sheet against her chest and sat up. “What are you doing?”

“I thought you might be hungry,” he said, giving her a lusty look that hinted at what he hungered for.

She giggled. “I thought you didn’t have anything here?”

“I didn’t.” He shrugged. “So I ran over to the house to grab some food for us.”

She frowned and tried not to roll her eyes. Great! Now his whole family knows we’ve slept together.

He must have read her thoughts because he quickly removed the pan with their partially cooked breakfast from the heat and came to the bed.
