"Great Qin-sah," Hermos began.

"Yes, Hermos," Marie said, "now is time to pray."

"Carry Morcastle to safety," Hermos continued. "Your back is strong."

The workmen had begun to shovel dirt onto the corpse. Hermos released Marie's hand and strode forward. "Turn him over," he growled, but the shovels kept tossing dirt on the tumbled form. Reaching the grave, Hermos pushed the diggers back and knelt down beside the body. A tear barely had time to streak down his long, gaunt cheek before the muscular diggers seized Hermos's shoulders to fling him back. In one swift motion, Hermos struck one of the diggers in the face with his elbow and tripped the other one, who landed flat on his back. Hermos turned back to the grave, but the Puppetmaster loomed over him. The man-giant's expression hardened, and he stood to his full height, staring down at the Puppetmaster. "Turn him over," growled Hermos.
