Explaining the Strategy

The event itself is centered on a catered meal. When participants show up, they are encouraged to mingle for thirty to forty minutes. Afterward, they are invited to sit down at a table for dinner. Each table or eating area is designed to hold eight to ten people. Participants are allowed to sit wherever they choose.

After dinner the Area Fellowship assimilator explains the Group Link strategy, including the goal for the evening. At the end of the presentation, the assimilator encourages participants to seriously consider beginning a starter group with the people they are seated with. At that time the Area Fellowship coach takes a few minutes to explain what is necessary to become a community group leader. Often people wrongly assume that leading a community group means teaching a Bible study. Once they understand that a community group leader serves as a facilitator, participants are more willing to step forward and assume a leadership role.
