Dan sent a text to Molly that he was going to go with Officer Sherry to the local police station. She wasn’t thrilled with the idea, but she texted back for him to be home before dinner.

He knew she was right, and he should just hang it up already. This problem wasn’t his to solve. It was up to the local cops to do their job.

But there was something deep down within him that wouldn’t let him hang it up. He had to be involved somehow. There was a curiosity about this particular situation that intrigued him. How had a man been found dead next to a dumpster with no visible signs of struggle, and then the same day, his wife is accused of murdering him by everyone who’d heard the story?

It just didn’t add up, and there was no way Dan wasn’t going to be part of the solution in the end.

He knew Molly understood that even if the idea didn’t thrill her.

“This is quite a case,” Officer Sherry said as he drove them to the police station. “I’ve not seen anything like it all my years on the force.”

Dan shook his head. “Me either. It’s strange.”

“We’re expecting the toxicology labs back anytime. Those might rule out poisoning. If you ask me, that would be the only way his wife would have been able to pull something like this off.”

“True,” Dan said. “My mind didn’t even go to poison. For some reason, that’s one I never think of.”

“You’re not the only one,” Officer Sherry smiled. “It was way down on my list, too.”

They drove for a few moments in silence before Officer Sherry took a hard left into the parking lot of a small brick building.

“Home sweet home,” he joked.

Dan grinned and said, “Interestingly enough, it feels that way.”
