CHAPTER 12

Diana

Diana

"Stop being a baby and pull it together," I muttered, dipping my head low as I splashed my overheated face with cold water. I lifted my head and swiped the water away with a towel. "You're the one in control here," I said to my reflection. "Act like it."

My eyes glinted ice as my wolf raised her hackles, her voice ringing in my mind clear as a bell.

You are only in control because I allow it. Never forget that.

I let my lids drift shut as the clawing need tore through my body and nearly brought me low.

"Please," I whimpered, the sensation so keen it bordered on physical pain.

Why was I being punished this way? Hadn't I suffered enough of late?

I'd lost the only father I'd ever known, not to mention several beloved packmates in the battle prior, and the Territories were crumbling before my eyes. And now, despite utter exhaustion, my wolf was in full-on heat again. Could a queen get a fucking break for just one day?

I stepped out of the bathroom and began pacing the room in tiny circles, mainly because that was the only sized circles I could manage in the tight space. Honeymoon suite, my ass. Or maybe they called it that because you'd be forced to sleep nearly on top of one another if you tried to fit two people in this room? The bed was essentially two twin mattresses shoved together, and there was just enough space to squeeze a small nightstand on either side. At the foot of the bed lay a 5 by 7 rug that I was currently wearing a hole through, and there was a tiny bathroom with pedestal sink and small tub. I guess I should've been grateful I had that, but I couldn't help but wonder if Myrr had been right. Maybe I'd been hasty, hot-footing it from Gabe's place so quickly...

I hadn't exactly ingratiated myself to him when we'd left. But damn it, I felt like I was surrounded by fools, and I didn't suffer them lightly.

And on that note, where the fuck were Raven and Nicholas? Surely, they should've been back by now. Myrr had told me they’d gone out to see what they could find out in town, and didn’t want any company.

Strike that.

They didn’t want my company.

Fair enough. I didn’t want theirs either. But where the hell were they?

"Diana?" Raven's low voice called through the door a moment later.

Speak of the devil.

My heart leapt to my throat as I stopped pacing but didn't move toward the door. I was dying to know what had happened on their little field trip, but no way could he be in here right now. Not if I wanted to keep this robe on.

A low sigh sounded through the door.

"Just tell me now, are you going to let me in or not?"

If he doesn’t, we can just go out there, straddle those lean hips and—

"Stop it!" I hissed under my breath.

This was ridiculous, and unseemly to boot. As soon as I got back to the Territory, I would have a sit-down with my science team.
