Anecdotally, this method is somewhat akin to that practised by the Surrealists in Paris such as Andre Bretton set out in his Manifestoes of Surrealism (1924). They set up clinics where they invited people to enter into a spontaneous process of creativity. There are also similarities to the practice of automatic writing somewhat earlier. Psychology professor Théodore Flournoy (1854â1920), who was an early influence on Jung, investigated claims made by 19th-century medium Hélène Smith (Catherine Müller) that she used automatic writing to convey messages from Mars in Martian language (Flournoy 1900).
Active imagination and The Red Book
Active Imagination is a method Jung devised by using creativity to explore dream/fantasy images.
The Red Book is where Jung developed a new worldview in the form of a psychological and theological cosmology, using Active Imagination.
