âYeah, I got stupidly teary too, fucking hormones,â she grumbles. âWhatâs your excuse?â
Stupid boy. He spent part of the day being a grump and being rough and broody. Then he does something like this, and I am floored.
I saw him scribble on one of the cups with the marker the lady at the coffee shop gave him. I thought he was marking which was the hot chocolate. I didnât give it two thoughts.
âI need a pen.â I say as Arabella starts to get up.
âWhat do you think Iâm getting up for?â she says, laughing as she goes to one of the kitchen drawers that probably hasnât been opened since we were kids and pulls out an ancient looking marker.
âHow old is that thing?â
âWho cares? Itâs green, like his eyes. Think of it as my input into your cheesy reply.â
I take his cup and write YES, underlining it just to make sure he gets the message and then I jump up from my seat. Standing there stupidly, pondering what to do.
âWell, take it to him then!â Arabella says as she tugs me by the arm towards my fatherâs office. When we get to the door she says, âKnock!â
âKnock?â Shit, my heart might actually burst from my chest any moment now.
When I donât move, she knocks loudly. Three times. And then she legs it.
Ugh. Iâm frozen on the spot not knowing what to do when Casper opens the door and I can tell that the quiet coming from inside the office is forced. Like they donât want anyone hearing what theyâre discussing.
âPrincess?â he asks, his eyes wide because Iâm still rendered speechless. Chuckling, he hollers, âNumbers boy!â
Numbers boy?
Leo opens the door wide and I get a glimpse inside. My fatherâs desk is still in the middle of the room, Christopher and Freddie are sitting around it with Dad and Casper joins them. The mahogany wall on the left is covered in papers with a whiteboard beside it with so many numbers my eyes cross.
âHey.â Leo closes the door behind him and looks at me, surprised. âYou okay?â
âYes. I think. Yes.â
âYou think yes?â He comes closer.
Before he thinks Iâm any more of an idiot I hold up his coffee with the big, fat YES facing him. âYes!â
A soft smile filters through his features as he takes the cup from me and leans down, he tips my chin up with his free hand and ghosts my lips with his.
He breathes in so deeply that Iâm sure heâs going to inhale me into his lungs, and then he licks across the seam of my lips once. Twice. And again, until Iâm panting, and my brain goes to mush, my legs to jelly.
The kiss he presses onto them is soft and full of reverence. Itâs unlike any kiss heâs given me so far. So sweet.
âIâm taking you out tonight.â He says as he pulls away with a smile. âIâll come find you when weâre done here.â
Biting his lip, he brushes my hair back before kissing my forehead.
