As we walked up the steps to the hotel’s main building, I said, “I still think it’s total bullshit you get to wear whatever you want tonight, and I have a dress code.”

Vinny smiled as he looked down at me. “I love this skirt.” He ran his hand from the small of my back down my ass, gently squeezing. “I love how it clings to all of your sexy curves.” He sweetly kissed me and then responded to my original statement. “I agree the shirt is stupid, but I guess bridal party theme shirts are popular.”

“A black shirt with ‘Bridesmaid’ in gold paired with a black sequin skirt just isn’t creative.”

“Could be worse,” he whispered. “You could have Caroline’s ‘Pop the Bubbly. I’m Getting a Hubby’ shirt.” He pointed to where Caroline was standing outside the doors. She was wearing a white shirt with gold writing with a champagne bottle, and a gold sequin skirt.

I turned my head and glared at him. “Never. That will never happen.”

“The shirt or the hubby?” he asked, with his mouth pressed close to my ear. His breath ran down my neck as he spoke, and I felt my nipples harden.

Seriously? From just his breath against my ear, how is that possible?

“The shirt will never happen. Undecided about the hubby. I’m not sure if I believe in marriage. Is a marriage license needed? Isn’t it antiquated?”

He shook his head. “Needed? No. Not anymore. Wanted? With the right person. I could spend my life with one person if she were the right person.”

“Was Amber the right person?” I turned to look at Vinny. I’d always been curious if he saw her as wife material and had assumed so since they were together for so long, but he’d never asked. If you’re with someone for so long, why wouldn’t you ask?

“When I was sixteen, yes. By the time I was twenty, no. We just didn’t know how not to be together. Instead, we stayed in place until one of us ended things.” He held the door open for me. As I walked past him, he placed a hand on my hip, stopping me momentarily. He leaned down and kissed me, longer and slower than when he commented on my skirt. He urged my lips to part with his tongue. When I did, he gently massaged my tongue with his before pulling back. “I’m glad it was you.”

“Really?” I glanced up at him, locking my eyes on his amber eyes.

He nodded. “The best decision I ever made was waiting for you. You’re the only one I’ve wanted for years, Cam. I just didn’t know if you would see me as anything other than your brother’s best friend.”

“Remember the rules, Vinny.”

“I know. I promised not to fall in love with you this week.”

“Mmm-hmm,” I agreed as he kissed the side of my neck, causing heat to radiate throughout my body and wetness to pool in my panties. What I didn’t tell Vinny was that I’d fallen in love with him years ago.
