Dear Corry,

I had to stop writing yesterday when Jesse and Annie came home, and my boobs were required for sustenance. Where did I leave off? Oh, right. When Jesse said I was the weakest link.

After that, the meeting got a little chaotic, because the idea of a human (or, more likely, multiple humans) coming after us carries just so many problems. Dealing with humans who are in the know is always delicate, because “Don’t tell the homo sapiens about us” is one of the few universal laws the Old World has. In LA, Dashiell keeps that shit locked down pretty tight, which has caused us internal conflict in the past (like that time he almost MURDERED JESSE when we first met; no I have not forgotten).

We all know, however, that there are a few exceptions—and this is where it gets really tricky. Most of the humans who know about us are the spouses of werewolves, or Friends of the witches (they’re only supposed to know about witch magic, but still), or the occasional human servant/vampire-in-training, though that’s getting really rare these days, and often involves someone with a terminal illness. All three of those groups have a lot to deal with already, so if one of them has turned against the Old World…well. Life is hard enough for someone like Robin, who has a husband who’s always on edge and turns into a big-ass wolf once a month. If Dashiell really starts panicking, and decides to go after the spouses and the Friends of the witches, then Eli and Kirsten are gonna jump to defend them. It could be war.

If it’s not one of our people, or rather, someone attached to one of our people, there’s a chance it could be skinners, and again: world of problems. I didn’t know much about skinners until the thing in Vegas, but everything I’ve learned about them since then is flippin’ terrifying. At the meeting everyone discussed it calmly, but come on. High-paid, scruple-less mercenaries with silver bullets and witch bags, who can move around the city undetected by nulls? What’s not scary about that?

I have to admit that hiring skinners to come here and fuck with our heads is a pretty solid plan.

So we all discussed that for awhile, and Jesse, of all people, reminded us that there’s a third possibility: whoever’s doing this could be a stranger who’s been victimized by someone in the Old World and holds a grudge…like Jared Hess. I hate to even mention that name to you, Cor, but it’s kind of blowing my mind that we’re actually hoping for a Jared Hess situation—because it would be more containable than the first two options. I’m deeply glad you’re not here, and that I decided not to talk to you about this situation until it’s all over, or until I absolutely need your help.

Anyway, the meeting ended with less of a plan than a few resolutions. Matthias is working on the wolfberry sedative, of course, but
