Chapter 8

A New Plan

“Will, right?” Tanner said to the boy. He nodded.

“You’re BP Three’s friend,” Tanner said. He stuck out his hand. “I’m Tanner,” he said. “What are you doing around here?”

“My parents split up, and my dad lives in this neighborhood,” Will said. “So I’m here every weekend.”

“I thought kids from Woodville don’t stoop to skateboarding.” Tanner smirked.

Will smiled. “Some of us like to skateboard. But there are some people who don’t like it.”

Tanner knew who Will meant — the Parsons family. “They pretty much run the whole neighborhood,” Will said. “But Bennett’s cool, once you get to know him.”

“I don’t think that’s going to happen,” Tanner said. “Not after yesterday.”

“That was a cool run,” Will said. “Until you biffed, that is.”

They both laughed. “Billy and I do this game where we try to match each other’s tricks,” Tanner said. “Want to try?”

Will nodded, and off they went. For the next several hours, the boys matched each other trick for trick at the half-pipe, the rails, the ramps, everywhere.
