Chapter 21

Cole

I pace my room for the hundredth time. Back and forth. Back and forth. I'm losing it. My emotions are controlling my actions and I can't stop myself.

I was an idiot to pull her away from Jesse earlier tonight. I should’ve let him kiss her. I should’ve given her the option. Stopping the kiss isn't going to keep them from dating, it just makes me look crazy.

Maybe I am going crazy. Samantha Finley has driven me to insanity.

Seriously, how did I think telling a freaking doctor she’s sick would end well for me?

I feel like I'm going to explode. I have so many emotions coursing through my body right now. Lust, desire, and love towards Sammie. Anger and rage towards that asshole, Jesse.

That’s not fair. Jesse actually seems like a really nice guy, but in my mind, he’ll forever be an asshole because he’s trying to take what’s mine. The fucked-up part is I have no claim to Sammie.

At least not yet.

She’s my friend, my pal, my buddy, my partner in crime. She’s never shown much of an interest in me as more. I knew there was something special about Sammie the first day I spotted her in the art room in college. She was so focused on her drawing. The world didn’t exist around her.

Standing just inside the doorway, I stare at the girl sitting in the corner alone. Her head is tilted to the side as she nibbles on the pen in her hand.

She’s examining whatever she’s working on. Her concentration is amazing. It’s almost like she’s unaware that there’s an entire world going on around her. She’s in her own little bubble and nothing seems to be able to penetrate it.

It’s the first day of class, so there’s no way she’s working on a project. We haven’t been assigned anything yet.

A small smile tugs on her plump lips. Her hand goes back to the paper and she begins sketching something as quickly as she can. Her attention is solely on her art, she’s so oblivious to everyone talking around her. She definitely doesn’t notice the half a dozen guys gawking at her.

One guy sits down next to her and says something, but she doesn’t respond. She doesn’t even look at him. I honestly don’t think she’s even aware he’s there. She’s too engrossed in her work. It’s amazing to see someone that passionate about their art.

I love art. I love creating something spectacular out of nothing. I love taking an idea or picture I have in my head and putting it on paper. It’s a talent I wouldn’t give up for anything.

The guy who sat down with her, stands and walks away. He’s clearly annoyed she ignored him. He strolls over to a table full of guys. As soon as he sits down, they all start laughing and slapping him on the back. They’re laughing at their friend for striking out with the hottest girl in our class.

I bring my gaze back to her as I head straight to her table.
