When I made it to the squad room, Roman was already sitting at my desk waiting for me. Cas and Finn were huddled together talking about something, and Michaels was at his desk working. I walked in silently and put my things away, sitting down with a long sigh.

“Everything okay?” Roman asked.

I smiled tightly. “Yeah, everything’s good. You ready to head over to The Third Eye and do some recon?”

He grinned. “Oh, yeah. I haven’t been undercover in a long time. You remember when you went undercover at that nightclub … what was it called again?” He snapped his fingers to help him remember.

“Ground Zero,” I supplied, recalling that night vividly. I remembered everything about Los Angeles. “You and Third Eye Lou dressed me like a hooker.”

“You were a hooker?” Michaels jumped into the back half of the conversation, getting the attention of Cas and Finn.

“No way!” Finn chuckled.

I rolled my eyes. “You men are all the same. I was not a hooker! I was only dressed like one for—”

“No,” Roman held up a finger to stop me, “you were dressed like an expensive escort.”

“Whatever,” I mumbled. “You still pimped me out to that ogre.”

“I’ve never seen an ogre in person,” Cas said in awe. “We don’t have any in New York City.”

“There’s tons of them in Los Angeles,” Roman said. “Ace got up close and personal with one, didn’t you?” He gave me a sly smile that I wanted to smack right off his face.

“Very funny,” I deadpanned. “His breath was deadly. It was torture, and in five-inch heels, no less!”

When everyone started laughing, I couldn’t stop the quirk of my mouth. It was funny now, but it certainly wasn’t in the moment. Definitely not in the moment.

“Why don’t you let me put you in drag before we head over to The Third Eye as a little payback?” I smirked at Roman.

He grinned. “I’d actually let you, except for the fact that it’d ruin our chances of getting the information we need. But trust me Ace, I have no problem with that.”

I shook my head in laughter. Of course he wouldn’t.

My friends and I were talking shit like we always did when Briggs stomped into the squad room. With his arrival, everything fell silent.

“Grey!” he barked.

I swallowed what I was about to say and straightened. “Yeah, boss?”

“I heard you’re going to The Third Eye, is that true?” His voice boomed throughout the squad room, making everyone stand at attention.

“Very true,” I said. “We’re hoping to find out who else was involved in Plan Exodus besides the vampires.”

“I’m imagining you want to look for Maximos while you’re there, correct?”

I cleared my throat. “It’s no secret I’ve been looking for him for weeks now, but that bastard keeps dodging me.”

He huffed and looked around the room before his sharp eyes landed on me again. “Tread carefully, Grey. I don’t want any mistakes. Everything by the book!”

“Yes sir.”

Briggs took one last look around the room and yelled, “As you were!”

The moment he was safely ensconced in the elevators, everyone breathed easier.
