“You’re kidding me!” I squealed loudly as I squeezed Axel tighter, feeling up his rigid abs as I pressed closer. A laugh rumbled through his chest, vibrating into my palms. After a long ride down the California coastline on the back of Axel’s bike, he opened another portal, the signature orange color of his magick swirling around the edges as the view came into focus on the other side.

Axel’s power tickled over my skin as he revved his engine and drove us through it, sealing it closed behind our backs.

He pulled to a stop and I catapulted myself off the back, only slightly reluctant to release Axel in my haste. My fingers fumbled with the fastening of my helmet while I toed off my Vans and cursed my socks.

Axel wore a wide, brilliant smile as he threw the kickstand into place and swung off the back in one lithe movement that spoke of years of practice. That confidence of his was sexy, even more so when he sauntered to my side and smirked down at my third attempt to get the helmet off my head.

“Here you go, pretty girl,” he said with a chuckle, flipping the visor back and unclipping the strap. He pulled it free and tucked it under his arm as he lightly brushed a piece of my hair back behind my ear. The wind whipped lightly around us, bringing the salty brine of seawater with it, while Axel leaned forward and placed a sweet, all too short kiss on my lips. In the next second, he waved his hand, letting his magick flare, and made the bike and helmets disappear altogether. “Our own private beach.”

“I can’t believe you remembered this.” I threw my arms wide, taking in the gorgeous view of the cove sprawled out before us as I recalled the passing comment I’d made about never having been to the ocean. It was one thing to see it in pictures, or even from the coastal road we’d just driven, but to actually stand before the rolling waves was indescribable. The sand was a perfect beige, the water more turquoise than blue as it crashed onto the beach, washing over a few gray rocks that stuck out of the surf. All around us, stony hills rose to encase us in a private, crescent moon shaped beach that took my breath away.

“I remember everything you tell me.” Axel’s voice was quiet and sincere, his smile soft as his eyes drank in the happiness I was sure was written all over my face.

Boldly, I walked up to him, gripped the lapels of his jacket, and pulled myself closer. His arms circled around me as I popped up on my tiptoes. Axel lowered his head, and I ran my nose along his as I breathed in his fresh forest scent with hints of the leather he liked to wear. My heart squeezed from how right it felt to be held by him. He completed a piece of me I hadn’t even realized had been lacking, and as crazy as it was, I couldn’t imagine my life without him.
