Section 11: Politics

Black Americans must become more instrumental in their local governments to provoke change on a legislative level. Grooming, vetting, funding, and voting for people to represent us in local administration is critical to our overall empowerment. Black Americans need a political party first and foremost.

Creating a Third Political Party will establish a regulatory state of independence for Black Americans because we will have control over who and what we elect to represent us. For the sake of this book, we will call it the Black American Political Party. The Libertarian Party is the largest third political party with a little over four hundred thousand (411,250) registered members.

Because most Black American share common political goals in this country, if we acquired just ten percent (10%) of our population at approximately four million three hundred thousand registered voters and members (4,300,000), the BAPP can become major in this country, particularly on the local level.

Because of the 2016 election season, Americans are all more politically aware than any other time in this country. Debates about whose Presidential candidate is better, whether they will fulfill their promises to the people, or if the system is rigged altogether. Even though we pay a great deal of attention to the National elections, not enough is given to the local elections. A good friend of mine and Harvard student studying Quantitative Analysis, Damon Kirk explains the importance of local elections in the black community.

“The average American waits every four years to express their complaints with their community and living standards. Not realizing the local elections are the deciding factor in their biggest complaints. For example; police interactions with Black Males (Attorney General, election every four years), Discriminatory Laws (State Congress, elections every two years), School Funding and Resources (Local City Council, election every two to four years), and finally accessible recreational activities (City Manager & County Commissioner).

Once you realize how the power is delegated, you’ll see the President himself is hardly bothered by direct involvement in our inner cities. I hazard an example; you’d never go to your company’s owner to fix something that happens in your particular store.”

The Black American Political Party will groom, fund and vote for their own State Senators, State Representatives/Assembly Persons, Mayors, Governors, District Attorney, Board Commissioners, Executives, Auditors, Engineers, Treasurers, Prosecutors, Coroners, Judges, Recorders, Law Directors, City/Town Council Executives, Councilmen/Aldermen, School Board Members, etc. Appointing and electing people from our community into these offices gives us a political leg to stand on in this country.

It doesn’t take a Political Scientist to figure out that Black Americans are deeply affected by the current political system they live in. Politicians rarely speak on issues dealing with Black Americans even when they are officials in predominantly black cities. Then you may have a politician or two take the floor on the issues, but never do much of anything about it. A big reason for this is because we are not vetting these officials before we cast our votes.
