We follow this rural road for a while, which leads to faster country highways, and in no time we are on a freeway racing along at a good clip. The last highway we meet up with is the vena cava which gathers blood from all over the body, and it takes us to the big city, pumping with life. The heart. We enter a region of that big city, called an atrium, and get pumped past a big valve into the right ventricle (just another region of the big city) and that compresses and sends us really fast along an artery to the lungs. There we drop off the bags with carbon dioxide and pick up bags of oxygen. No tipping the porters who help. Maybe another selfie. Others waiting in line move us along, and soon we are driving down a large vein to the heart again but this time we are staying on the left side of town. We enter another atrium and that pumps us into the largest and strongest chamber of the heart, the left ventricle. That baby squeezes tight (good old muscle contraction) and that shoots us out into the biggest superhighway of them all, fastest speed limits, the aorta. There are lots of exits from this highway. If we go down an early exit we could end up in the head, a bit later in the kidney or hamstrings of the left leg. That is where we end up this time around, now on smaller rural highways and eventually on a small side street. We drop off our oxygen, pick up a few bags of carbon dioxide, skip the selfies, and begin our leisurely trip back to the heart.
