Chocolate House (2)

The sound of the bell at the front door echoed through the room. Not just once, but several times. Elliot hesitated to get up. His hands were still on his head. He just wanted to lie down, because his head really hurt.

Maybe he really was sick. He had hardly slept in the last two days. His work took a lot out of him and made him tired. Now all he wanted to do was sleep and not let unimportant things bother him.

The tiredness came from the nightmares. He thought the dreams would subside after he visited Charles’ grave and apologized. But it did not get any better. He even visited his parents’ graves. But it was all in vain.

He remembered his parents had died in an accident after they said they disapproved of his poor attitude. They said he was getting greedy by swallowing the small businesses around him to expand his luxury hotel. He didn’t care about their warning. He even said he would lock them up in a nursing home if they continued to defy his wishes. But fate was so merciful to his dear parents. Heaven picked them up first.

It was such unforgivable behavior. He could not forgive himself for it. But now his dear parents must be happy in heaven. They would not have experienced the fear like he was experiencing now because they had not committed many sins. The nightmares came so often to him because he had sinned in the past. Sins he had committed without thinking. He didn’t even blink when he hurt others.

A heavy sigh escaped his nostrils. What else could he do after becoming a cripple? The image of the future was so frightening when he tried to move his arm. His hand was still moving. He breathed a sigh of relief. Not that time yet. But all the bad and terrible things would come, eventually.

Elliot hissed as the bell rang again. Although he hoped Angel was the one ringing the bell, he knew it was just his expectations. He hadn’t ordered chocolate or cake in two days. In that time, Angel had disappeared from his life. His life felt empty with longing. To be honest, he needed Angel, and he also hoped that the girl needed his presence. But maybe the girl never needed him.

He remembered the girl’s smile from last time. That awkward smile could mean that she also had the same feelings. She, however, had not contacted him. Elliot sighed. It was only natural that the girl didn’t contact him. She didn’t have his personal number. Even if she knew the hotel number, it was unlikely that the quiet girl would ever call him. Maybe their conversation so far meant nothing. Maybe for Angel, it was all just small talk with a stranger.

Angel never thought about him. Even after that night, the girl had not contacted him. To be honest, he had disappeared on purpose, hoping she would miss him. He hoped the girl would look for him.
