THE SENTINEL

This is one of the largest formations in the park, with an easy approach and great climbing. The nature trail takes you very close to the east face.

Finding the crag: Walk the Hidden Valley Nature Trail for about 300 feet to the nature trail’s loop junction. The Sentinel can easily be seen as the large formation to the west with a tree near its summit. Take the left branch of the loop and walk about 400 feet. The Sentinel is the large formation to your left, just off the trail. To get to Illusion Dweller, continue on the nature trail past the north end of the rock, then cut left and around to the west face. Walk about 400 feet down along the west face into a narrow canyon; Illusion Dweller will be on your left. GPS coordinates are included with individual cliff descriptions.

Descent: Scramble (3rd class) down off the left (south) shoulder.
