The drive up to Thermopolis was relaxing, as Lilith made a point to not think about or talk about the case. Although she did enjoy the investigating, it was at that frustrating point where she had some suspects, but couldn’t figure out the next step in getting the proof needed to make anyone responsible for Sarah’s death.

Tamara had tacos and drinks ready for everyone when they arrived, including Toho’s new favorite drink and a fish taco just for him. The friends ate and then the women slipped into the water while Toho stretched out on the grass in the sun.

After about an hour when he hadn’t moved, Oona looked over at him. “Is he alive?”

Toho blinked at her and fixed her with a baleful stare. Then he meowed at her and turned over.

“Did he just meow at me?” Oona asked, incredulously.

“He did,” Lilith said, laughing. “And I think that was a very saucy meow.”

“I guess he told you, didn’t he?” Tamara added.

“I heard that Josiah came over for dinner the other night. You two enjoyed some Mexican food and each other’s company,” Oona said.

Lilith blushed and asked, “Who did you hear that from?”

Oona pointed over her shoulder to Toho, who was making a point to ignore them.

Rolling her eyes, Lilith said, “I should have known. There are no secrets when he’s around.”

“You should have known he would talk. His favorite thing in the world to do is gossip,” Oona said. “Well, dish on the information.”

“It wasn’t really anything. We talked about the case and what not. Nothing to write home about,” Lilith said.

“He gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek when he left,” Toho reported.

The heat rose to Lilith’s face. “Would you be quiet?”

“Request denied,” Toho said.

“Ugh,” Lilith said. “The hug didn’t mean anything special. I give you guys hugs all the time.”

“Yeah, but you don’t have the hots for them,” Toho said.

“Cat, I’m going to dunk you in the water if you don’t stop,” Lilith said.

“If you could catch me,” Toho said.

“All I have to do is put out a bowl of your new favorite treat and I could grab you,” Lilith said.

“Not worried,” Toho said.

“He’s such a brat,” Oona said.

“He’s the brat that’s giving you all kinds of information,” Lilith said.

“Would you have told us if he hadn’t?” Tamara asked.

“I don’t know. It really wasn’t anything special.”

While everyone had been giving Lilith a hard time about Josiah, no one had been paying any attention to Emily. She had turned invisible and slipped out of the water. Then she carefully made her way over to Tamara and got back in so slowly that she didn’t make any ripples. She ducked under the water. Then, just as she turned visible again, she jumped out of the water and yelled, “Boo!”

All three of the women squealed loudly and jumped. Oona spilled her drink all down the front of her swimsuit.

“Girl, I’m going to beat your tuchus,” Tamara said, reaching for her.

Emily swam out of the way and stuck out her tongue.
