Chapter 8: Back To Reality

The next day Soren awoke at his usual time, but for the first time in his life, it was with a huge smile on his face.

Their weekend in the English Countryside had been even better than he had hoped.

He looked over at Angela sleeping peacefully and gently stroked her cheek as he thought with regret about how he needed to leave her in order to get to work.

He got out of bed, did his exercise routine, and then got dressed. Grabbing his newspapers, he headed to the kitchen for his Monday morning ritual of making enough oatmeal to last him for the week, remembering to make a bit more for Angela.

As it was cooking, he made his espresso and ignored his newspapers allowing his thoughts to return to Bath.

It had been exactly as he had hoped: romantic, peaceful, and constructive, as though it had laid a strong foundation from which they could build a real relationship. His heart overflowed with happiness as he thought about the potential future they had together.

At 7:30, he thought he heard a stirring sound coming from the bedroom. He peeked his head into the bedroom expecting to see Angela still asleep, but there she was sitting up, somewhat awake, rubbing her eyes.

“Well hello, darling,” she said. “I thought I heard you mucking about in the kitchen.” She rubbed her eyes, stifling a yawn.

He leaned down, caressing her cheek with his thumb as he gave her a kiss.

“Good morning, sunshine. I'm so sorry, but I have to leave immediately to make it to work on time. And you know how I hate being late,” he said seriously in order to nip in the bud any effort on her part to delay his departure.

She pouted at how easily he thwarted her plan.

The look on her face made him chuckle. “I see I have foiled your grand scheme,” he said playfully.

She blushed mildly. “Am I that obvious?” she asked, as she stretched languidly, the silk charmeuse of her gown pulling taut against her curves.

The sight of her nipples pushing against her nightgown made him sigh deeply. “Yes, but I wouldn't have it any other way,” he said as he kissed her briefly. He backed out of the bedroom saying, “I left you a bowl of oatmeal on the counter. I need to go. I'll call you later. Have a beautiful day,” he waved as he left, his fingers trailing just behind his body as he exited the room.

When Angela heard the front door close, she rolled on her back, basking in the beauty of their perfect weekend. It had been so incredibly thoughtful of him to take her to Bath. Her stomach rumbled, interrupting her reverie. She padded her way to the kitchen to make herself a bowl of oatmeal.

Steel cut, my favorite, she thought as she scooped some out of the pot.

She found some honey to drizzle over it and cut up a few raw almonds for extra texture. She dug-in hungrily and happily when her phone rang; it was Marco.
