Chapter Ten
The big issue was all she could think about was what it would be like to kiss him again. Which was crazy. He was Louie, her nerdy friend who she barely even thought of as a guy for most of her life. If she was with any other man, he'd already be trying to get her naked. He'd be talking about warming her up and how much more comfortable she'd be lying on the floor in front of the fire.
"Beck?"
She nodded. âLet's find some food. This wine is making me lightheaded.â She tossed the afghan off her lap and stood. The room spun a bit and she swayed. Louie helped her sit back down.
"I shouldn't have let you drink that so fast without some food in your stomach. You sit here. I'll fix us something."
"No, no I'm fine. I just stood up too fast."
He looked skeptical but let her get to her feet again. This time the room didn't spin so much and she focused on getting to the door without weaving. Once in the kitchen, she sank to the chair while he poked around in the refrigerator.
"I think you're out of luck with your French toast and bacon. Could I talk you into a tuna melt, or grilled cheese and soup?"
"Whatever you're in the mood for is fine with me."
He turned and looked at her with an eyebrow raised.
"Don't even think it, Nerdman,â she cautioned.
He grinned and shook his head. âA man can dream. Grilled cheese and soup it is."

It was so cold. The blizzard roared around him and he couldn't see the house. He couldn't see anything. Where was Becky? He had to find her. She'd been away from him for so long. What if she was lost? He had to find her, had to get to her. He looked down and saw that he was naked except for the mask from the ball. What was going on?
His eyes flew open. What theâ. He let his breath out. It was a dream. It was cold, though. That's what woke him up. The room was like ice. It was still dark out and he leaned over to switch on the lamp on the nightstand. Nothing. That's what was going on, no power.
Gritting his teeth, he flipped off the blankets and fumbled to the chair where he remembered tossing his jeans and flannel shirt. The penlight he kept on his keychain gave off enough illumination for him to make his way down the hall to Becky's room. She was curled up in a tiny ball under the blankets. Convinced she was fine, he headed downstairs to get the fireplace going again.
The candles Becky always lit to make the house smell nice sat on a table in the foyer and he found the matches and lit several. He had the fire roaring and was sitting on the couch staring into it when he looked up to see her.
She had a blanket wrapped around her shoulders, her hair was mussed, and her gorgeous green eyes were sleepy.
