Briar called a meeting with the team today. After careful consideration, she decided on two new members. Hal and Riggs will be here any moment, and my nerves are getting the better of me. Briar has reignited a part of me that hasn’t surfaced in over a decade. Feelings that I didn’t know I had, creating an uncomfortable inner silence that I can never quite settle into.

Instead of our apartment building, we’re convening in an old conference room I’ve converted into our meeting space. We need a home base, and the apartments would eventually start to feel cramped as we grew. Plus, I firmly believe in at least attempting work-life boundaries. Too bad I’ve never been successful on that front.

Briar saunters into the conference room looking like a snack. An absolute snack. Her curves are on full display, those dark jeans hugging her body in all the right places. If we weren’t expecting other people, I would spread her out on this table and savor that delicious body of hers for hours. I don’t fall to my knees often, but for her, I would kneel between her legs and worship.

“Stop looking at me like that,” she snaps. She can try to hide it all she wants, but her voice is huskier than usual.

“Like what?” I’m just taunting her now, poking her to see how far I can tease her before she snaps.

“Like you want to eat me.” She pulls her bottom lip into her mouth. If Gabe hadn’t walked through the door at that exact moment, that would have been my undoing. My control is slipping the more time I spend with her, and I don’t quite mind.

“What’s happening, friends?” Gabe asks the room. After apparently taking his time reading the room, his eyes go wide before he bursts out laughing.

“What?” Briar asks, a note of defensiveness in her voice. Gabe just shrugs in response. Briar rolls her eyes and I can’t help but laugh. She turns her unhappy gaze on me, her eyes full of warning. I know she hates it when people answer with a shrug. I know because I do it to her all the time.

“Where is everyone else?” Neither of us answers him. Gabe talks about something else, but I’m not paying attention. Instead, I fix my eyes on Briar. She’s moved to sit at the head of the table, her legs crossed. Leading looks good on her. I’ve always viewed myself as a very dominant person, but the power she holds makes me want to let her use it on me.

Her eyes catch mine for a moment, and she surprises me by licking her lips before returning her gaze back to Gabe. My cock strains against the rough zipper of my jeans at just that small movement.

“We’re still doing this, huh?” Gabe gestures to Briar and me and his words snap my attention back to him.

“I don’t know what you mean,” I say, kicking back in my chair, my tone noncommittal.
