Summer Locals

Heavy cover is the best area in which to use jigs during the hot weather. It’s a time when you have to put the bait right in front of the fish. It takes the right cast into a brush pile or grass bed to attract the strike.

Boat docks, pilings, logs, etc. are prime summer time targets, and in the hot weather, casts should be extremely short. The real key for summer time jig angling success, though, is making a good presentation. You have to put it right on top of the fish because they are not really feeding; they are more or less guarding their territory.

Many bass professionals feel the jig is a dependable bait that they can usually call upon year-round to catch fish. I’ve found the same to be true. In my estimation, it deserves much more credit than it usually gets. It’s a winner!
