"Why do I get the feeling you’re experienced with breaking and entering?" Nate crowded in behind Holly, hiding her actions from prying eyes.

A shiver tracked down Holly’s spine from the base of her neck. Nate wasn't touching her, so no chance of banshee visions, but his body warmth radiated out, heating her back. Ignore…ignore…ignore, Holly chanted in her mind. The last thing she needed was her family getting wind of her interest in Nate. Next thing, the Harrow spinster and Amnesia Boy would be set up on a blind date... Hang on. Holly froze. Since when did she have an interest in Nate? She was just making sure he wouldn't sue her or the funeral home for malpractice. That's all.

"Problems getting in?"

Nate’s low voice tickled Holly's bare neck. "Nope. All good." She hurriedly shoved the door to Leon's apartment open and slipped Elspeth’s purloined skeleton key finger into the pocket of her jeans. "And it’s not breaking when you have a key, just entering."

"Somehow, I don't think your cousin’s police chief husband would agree."

"What happens on a Harrow sleuthing mission stays on a Harrow sleuthing mission. Zip it." Holly stepped into the sparsely furnished apartment. "I'm glad I left Harry at home this morning. You two couldn’t be quiet if your lives depended on it."

"He has an attitude problem." Nate slipped into the apartment and closed the door behind him. "And Harry only stayed at home because he hates early morning. Apparently, chasing me at the inn yesterday exhausted his taxidermy bones.”

Holly flapped a piece of paper at Nate. "I didn't have a choice. Leon is working at the funeral home this morning, and I have a revised work schedule for him. It’s important and our excuse to visit."

"If he's at the funeral home working, I'm pretty sure he knows about the schedule," Nate pointed out logically.

Holly rolled her eyes. "This morning, he got called in by Samuel, nothing to do with normal schedule, and I'm not supposed to be working today. I'm pretending to helpfully drop this off. It's an excuse and I get bonus points for being proactive and dedicated to my job. Nah, nah." Holly poked her tongue at Nate.

Letting out a rich, deep, masculine chuckle, Nate patted Holly on the head. "Careful where you put that tongue, banshee. It might get you into trouble." He slid past and nosed around the small apartment. "Leon’s not one for clutter, or comfort for that matter."

Holly banished the images of just where her tongue might disappear to and cleared her throat. "Leon’s not a big socializer either. He doesn't join my team for after work drinks or coffee catch-ups. But he's only been here for a little while. Some people take more time to warm up than others. At least, that's what I thought up ‘til now." Holly searched through the kitchen, but her gravedigger employee only had the bare minimum of utensils, plates, and other kitchen equipment in the cupboards.

"Maybe he keeps to himself for a reason?"

"Possibly. He does have a girlfriend though.
