Chapter Thirteen

Xenon

Leon Wynnell was in horrid shape. Yet, as we demanded, we met him in his study late that afternoon. We weren’t surprised to see his mother back at his side. Aside from Leon and his mother, two other men in business suits were in the room. Leon had introduced them as trusted council members when we arrived. I couldn’t even remember their names but that was beside the point.

“It should come as no surprise that I want you and your clan of savages out of my sector,” Leon said. He sat behind the desk with his one broken arm in a sling.

“And like I said, when you pay us for the damages you caused, we will leave,” Axil replied.

“Furthermore, our women are not your pleasure slaves.”

“Tell the women that,” Ketil said from his position by the door. “What is your sister’s name? Elle, is it? Even the most innocent don’t like being sheltered. But not to worry, I’ve liberated her. You will thank me later. She’s already done so.” He adjusted his crotch in a show of defiance.

Leon nearly rose, but both council members placed their hands on his shoulders to make him sit.

“Control your temper,” one of them told him.

“What more do you savages want? You are raping our women. Leading them astray,” The other council member stated.

“Only dogs can be led astray, old man. I can assure you. No one has been taken against their will,” Axil said.

“Give them three crates of food and medical supplies and let them be gone. It’s enough to get any village through the winter,” the council member suggested.

Axil busted out laughing, and then he cleared his throat and made a straight face. “We don’t want your food. We produce our own. We want the tanks.”

“The tanks! That’s ludicrous. We can’t just pick up the tanks and give them to you,” Leon countered.

“We want the tanks and the surrounding land it sits on so that we may reproduce the oil you destroyed. You will have no rights to anything we produce and our attempts to trade with other villages will go unmolested.” Axil produced a folded-up piece of paper from his back pocket and unfolded it on the desk in front of Leon. I noticed that it was a map that he had snatched early from one of the libraries in the sector the day we executed the breach.

“No...” A council member said. “We cannot give them that. It is our land now. It was technically a part of Anchora and now it is rightfully ours.

Leon held up a finger to shut the man up. “It is barren land. They can have it.”

“While we’re on that point, let me show you exactly where this acquisition will end and begin.” Axil handed the pen to me. I knew exactly which area he wanted to stake a claim in. We had talked about territory lines before the raid. And as a tracker, I had traveled the borders many times in search of supplies as well as in search of my brother.
