Marisa was still alone well into the next day. Neither Mia or Liam were back in their rooms. Rowena claimed Liam had come and gone, but that Mia hadn’t been seen or heard from. She’d paid for her room until the end of the week, so the clerk wasn’t too worried.

“Young lasses go off with the lads all the time.” The fluffy, white-haired woman winked, as if it was common for tourists to disappear in the environs of Dublin without a trace.

At first, Marisa wasn’t worried. She caught up on her sleep and browsed through her guidebook to plan the rest of her week. A break in the action was nice.

She spent the afternoon at The Blarney Bear watching people and making up stories in her mind for them. Maybe the reality show would surprise her and whisk her away at any moment.

But as the day wore on, she got antsy. It wasn’t like Liam not to return her text messages. After eating a late lunch, Marisa went back up to her room.

“Meow, meow.” A black shadow sprang from her bed and scampered toward her, claws outstretched.

“Rats. What are you doing here? Where’s Liam?” Marisa dodged the swishing claws and closed the open window.

The kitten mewed and slunk under her bed.

“Has something happened to Liam?”

Obviously, the kitten couldn’t answer.

Marisa got on her knees and peered under the bed. “I thought he took you with him.”

Rats swished his tail, but remained hidden under the bed.

“I bet you’re hungry.” Marisa let the kitten’s whiskers touch her hand, and when he didn’t swat at her, she carefully petted him with two fingers. “Don’t be scared of me. Let me find out what’s going on, and then I’ll get you something to eat.”

She got back on the bed and texted Liam, then Mia, and finally Rughead.

No one replied.

Marisa’s chest tightened. Maybe she was the only one left out of the loop. Obviously, they had left her stranded by herself while the show traveled to another location.

Had they kicked her off the show? Where was Mr. Silver? It felt strange not to have the camera crew milling around.

She wouldn’t put it past Mia and Rughead making an end run around her. But Liam? Her Liam?

He’d seemed so earnest and loyal. Had she yet again fallen for another handsome, smooth-talking man? Had she let Liam trick her into thinking he was on her side?

Anger roiled in her belly while an ache panged deep in her heart. She’d been played again. Maybe she should go home before she got in any deeper.

A part of her winced at how hopeful she’d gotten whenever Liam kissed or touched her.

He seemed so genuine.

She called his mobile phone and left him voicemail when he didn’t answer. “Where the heck are you? I’m stranded here, with no news, no messages, and no car. Thanks, but no thanks for a bad time. I’m calling Bad Boys for Hire and asking for a refund.”

“Meow?” Rats crawled out from under the bed, his whiskers twitching.

“Just a sec,” Marisa said, then made a call to Bad Boys for Hire.
