Ms. Ravenwood made a point of visiting Emma every other day. She would bring her cookies and pictures of Lady Lu Lu and Sir Yoda doing silly things. She even had pictures of Diablo splashing water out of Sir Yoda’s water bowl and sleeping in Sir Yoda’s dog bed. Emma looked forward to their visits because Ms. Ravenwood was always comforting without judgment. In so many ways, she was she like Carol in terms of kindness and thoughtfulness. Sometimes when they took long walks through the hospital unit, Emma would tell her that she was scared that she would go back home and hurt someone. Ms. Ravenwood would put her arm around her and hug her tight and always say, “That’s poppycock. You are too good of a person to ever let that happen to the ones you love.”

Walker and Kinsley had visited Emma a couple of times since her admission. However, Emma had no visitors from her school. She had really made no friends since coming to Virginia. Kinsley told her that right after the incident that their dad had received a letter from the school suggesting that the Emma be enrolled in a private school or consider home schooling. She said she found the letter on the kitchen table while clearing the dishes and read it. All Walker could talk about was his girlfriend and how he has had to do more dog poop pickup since she was gone and that he couldn’t wait till she got home to take it back over.

Emma introduced Caroline to Walker and Kinsley. Neither one had met her before even though she just lived up the road from them. However, both did recall an incident where some girl went off on some mall cops a while back because both of them had been shopping there at the time. Emma talked about Nurse J.J. and how she wished they could meet her. Neither Kinsley or Walker were paying attention to her and both had already resorted back to checking Snapchat messages and texts within five minutes of the visit. It wasn’t that they were not concerned but being in the psychiatric hospital was uncomfortable for them.

As Emma and Caroline became closer, Caroline started asking more personal questions. She asked about everyone in Emma’s family and how Carol had died. She got details about Emma’s nightmares and how they made her feel. Emma told her all about Mrs. Ravenwood and how good of a cook she was. Both talked about their pets. Emma shared countless tales of Sir Yoda and Lady Lu Lu. Caroline talked about her two cats that were always getting into trouble. When Caroline asked about Emma and her sharing a room together after Emma’s roommate was discharged, Emma took advantage of her relationship with her father and pushed it. With some reluctance Logan approved the transfer. Caroline moved in and both would stay up talking through half the night. Nurse J.J. would often have to come in and tell them that these were quiet hours and they needed to be sleeping and resting.
