Chapter 8

Cory, Edge and Vance had worked out the little details of their plan by phone on the way to Washington St. She and Edge were now riding in silence after she had ripped his ass over his behavior towards Elehna. The vampires were already likely to be hostile towards him simply because of what he was, there was no need to increase the tension by flirting with the very person they were all there to protect. She glanced at him, as he sat there staring out the window. “I’m sorry I was so … harsh. I only have your best interests at heart though. What would I do without you if the vampires decided to kill you?”

Edge rolled his eyes as he turned to face her. “I appreciate your concern but I think I can handle a few vampires on my own. Besides… it wasn’t anything serious. I have no unsavory intentions towards her. Despite what you may think of me I am not completely without conscience.”

“I don’t think that. I think you’re a man- whore, there’s a difference.” She smiled as she said it and he couldn’t help but crack a smile at her preferred name for him.

Chuckling he said, “Please explain the difference.”

“Well, a man- whore just spreads himself around, taking anything willingly thrown his way but the emphasis is on the willingly. You don’t have to sweet talk or lie to women to get them to fall into your bed. They are practically lining up for their turn so you can hardly be faulted for taking advantage of their eagerness. I can only hope that one day you’ll meet a woman who is immune to your charms and laughs in your face.”

Laughing he said, “I don’t think my ego could withstand such a blow.”

“I think your ego could withstand just about anything.” She took a right turn and pulled into a parking garage two buildings down from where they were headed. Their light mood instantly vanished. It was time to get down to business. She pulled into a space and Vance parked next to her. They got out and met at her rear bumper. “Are we all clear on what we’re doing?”

Vance nodded. “You and him go in and talk to Kalen, hopefully gaining his full attention and I swoop in and scoop up Addie.”

“Don’t you worry your massive head about Kalen, distracting him will be the easy part. Your job is the hardest since we have no idea which room she is being held in. Hopefully, it will be in a different room from where Kalen is holding court.” That was a very big hope, and though Cory was fully prepared to take Addie back by force, it wasn’t something she was looking forward to. “Edge will contact you mind- to- mind and let you know what’s going on.”

“So I should be prepared to hear voices in my head… other than the usual ones.” Vance added the last part with a grin.

Cory gave him a droll stare and said, “Exactly.
