Sparrow insisted on taking a shower when we were done, and I was hungry, so we went our separate ways. I trust she’s not trying to be an escape artist at this point. We have a lot to talk about. I’m sure Dr. Berg would insist that come clean before moving forward. I can’t believe I’m listening to that jackass, but he’d be right. She deserves to have the opportunity to understand the shit going on in my head.

I’m acting like my dad right now, standing in the kitchen wearing nothing but my underwear as I pull the turkey, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, pepper jack cheese, and mayo out of the fridge.

I toast my buttermilk bread for a bit then construct my sandwich. In the end, I add a dab of mustard for a little tang then cut it in half - a habit I’ve kept since childhood. I moan during my first bite then grab some chips and a big cup of juice as I chew.

I’m up my stairs when someone starts banging on the front door. I shake my head. We need a better security team. First the teen ninja and now whomever is being an asshole at 3:12 in the morning. Turning, I decide to confront the asshole, but my half-naked dad flings open the door once I make it half way down.

“Where is she? Give me my niece right now! I saw her car.” Moonlight practically yells at his chest since she’s not tall enough to be in his face. “I knew something was off when she didn’t return. You’re evil and your son is probably like you now. She wouldn’t be here on her own.”

I shrug as I sit on the steps to watch the drama. She’s not completely wrong. I did hold her here, but she came on her own. My dad doesn’t respond, instead he attempts to close the door. I know him well enough to see it as a warning, but Moonlight is operating under the assumption that the twins shared the same temperament. She pushes at the door while asking for Sparrow to be returned.

My dad’s face changes a second before his hand wraps around her throat. Fuck, maybe we’re more alike than I thought. I would’ve done the same. He pulls her in the house then slams her against the now closed door.

“Don’t ever come to my house accusing me of kidnapping unless you’re trying to be my victim.” Nice. I like his style. He didn’t even yell. “Watch how you speak to me, Moonbeam.”

“Moonlight,” she corrects him.

“Does it look like I give a fuck about your name? The only reason you’re still able to speak is because my brother loved you. Don’t expect me to continue extending that courtesy.” He somewhat shakes her with each word. Ah, there’s the Whit I know. “I’ve heard about your inquiries around town. So, I’ll give you a warning. If you want to know anything about me, I’m the one you ask.” He leans in until their noses almost touch.
