There’s a pair of headlights far up ahead. By the looks of it, they seem to be the soft, round lights of a certain Ford Pinto. It’s Amelia, her and her alone and nobody else. She could’ve shown up in some shifty little jap car or, God help me if it happened, a newer model Ford Grenada. No, it’s just her and her Pinto and it takes a spell for me to catch my breath. Actually, it takes all of the nine and a half Mississippi’s between when she passes the sign and when she passes my car for me to catch my breath. She’s testing me. She even flickers her high beams as she passes. She knows I’m here. There don’t seem to be any hiding from her.

She keeps on driving further up the road. I know where she’s going. She knows I know where she’s going and I wait for those little red lights to get a little further away before I jam the Plymouth into drive. I keep my headlights off, nothing but the moon to light my way. I like the 107, especially at night.
