Chapter Thirteen

We head to the door and as we get closer, I can feel power radiating off of it. I use my See Magic, but I don’t see anything. Like zero. To me, it looks like a normal door, but something in me can feel power coming off of it in waves.

Looking over at Athena, I say to her, “I see no Magic around it, but yet I feel the power coming from it. Any ideas?”

“Not really. I can feel the power coming from it also, but I assumed it was Magic,” she tells me, confused now herself.

Walking up to the door and not touching it, I try to see if I can glimpse even tiny spots of Magic. Nothing. Even turning my head sideways like I used to doesn’t show me anything. Taking a rock out of my bag, I back up and motion for the girls to step a couple of feet back as well. Once I think we are at a safe distance, I throw the rock at the door. The stone hits the door and there is a loud explosion as the rock blasts into shrapnel. I hear yelps of pain, and even I feel pain as I feel the cuts on my face.

“All right, that was a dumb move,” I say out loud. Not hearing any disagreement, I look around and see Athena glaring at me, while the Imp just stares I am sure that’s her version of a glare too. Looking at my shoulder at Talia, I see she is staring at me too. Shit, I pissed off three, no wait four. I look over at Athena again and Malta is also looking at me with what is, I am sure, a glare. Sighing, I cast Major heal on everyone, including the spiders. I mean, it was my fuck up. Own up to it.

“Sorry ladies,” I tell them, embarrassed. Did I just also include spiders in that comment? Wow, how I have changed from not liking spiders. But I mean, fuck, look at them, they are cute with their white fur. Now, if it looked like a damn tarantula, no way would it be traveling on my shoulder. Too bad they couldn’t be something else, like a dog, I think with a sigh.

Walking back towards the door, I try to look at it differently. It’s a door. It seems to have some protection, as clearly if something touches it, it explodes. Well, at least the rock did. Looking back at the girls, I say, “Can you all back up around the corner again? I want to try some things and don’t want to hurt anyone. Please?” I ask them. “That goes for you too, Talia,” I tell her.

“That is fine, but be careful, Jason,” Athena says, walking backwards with Malta on her shoulder. The Imp disappears, so I assume she is following her. “And if you need help, just holler, all right?”

“I will, I promise. Talia, you need to go with Athena,” I tell the little spider.
