Near Outer System. This is composed of gas giant planets and their moons, comets, and asteroids that orbit between the Kuiper belt and the main asteroid belt. Objects in this system may contain rocks, liquid gas, and ice as major components. The near outer system is defined by the boundary at the orbit of Neptune.

Far Outer System. It consists of the Kuiper belt, the Oort cloud, ice Pluto planet, and comets that orbit between the belt and the clouds. Compounds may be made up of rocks. However, in most cases, they are mainly composed of ice.
