The drive was fairly stop and go. Students getting out of their last class before the end of the summer semester littered the roadways. A few of them paused to gawk at Greer’s appearance as they passed by, pointing and whispering to their group of friends. Greer was equal parts irritated that Odette had lifted the glamour so soon and glad when she finally pulled into the parking lot of her apartment building.

Odette touched down on the pavement next to her car and tucked her wings tightly into her body.

“How did they not see you?” Greer asked, as she pressed the lock button and jangled her keys in her hand. She finally came up with the building key.

“Glamour. I can make them see what I want to make them see.”

“But not me?” Greer pushed the key into the lock and opened the metal door.

“No, not you.” Odette followed her up the old, carpeted stairs. “I expect there are many things you can do. Heal from a vampyre bite, see through fae magic, trap your mind against succubus.”

Greer tripped on the last step at Odette’s words. “A succubus?”

Odette’s amber eyes shifted toward her. “You have much to learn before any daemon will take you seriously.”

Greer silently agreed as she unlocked the door to her apartment and stepped inside. She was surprised when she found Cian and Isaac sitting at the dining room table. Cian, dressed in his usual black cotton shirt and leather jacket, tapped his fingers against the wood grained surface.

“What are you doing here?” Greer heard from behind her. She glanced over her shoulder to see Odette’s sharp eyes gazing at someone in the shadows of the hallway.

Jonas appeared in the doorway and leaned against the wall. “We’ve been here waiting for quite some time.” He took a sidelong glance toward Greer and the large cut on her chest. “Aren’t you going to invite us in, sweetheart?”

Greer tilted her head and narrowed her eyes at the red-headed vampyre. “Odette, you can come in. Jonas, you may not.”

Odette sent a simpering smile toward Jonas as she sauntered over the threshold.

“And why can’t I come in?” Jonas asked. His lips pressed into a tight, white line as his hands clenched into fists.

Greer walked up to the door and stopped just before the threshold. “You attacked my mother. You’ve been hunting these university grounds for weeks now. There is no way I am going to allow you access to my apartment when Delia lives here.”

Jonas’ stare turned glassy as he glowered down at her, but Greer was already turning back to the group behind her. Isaac and Cian were discussing Greer’s magic, Odette keeping a fair distance from both vampyres seated at the table. Much to Greer’s chagrin, Odette had removed a dagger from her waistline and was absent-mindedly spinning the pointed end into the kitchen countertop. She was busy flipping through the spread of documents Greer and Delia had been going through the night before and had failed to notice Greer’s pointed stare.
