Chapter 9

“I believe people love to be scared because it’s a cathartic experience. Because you get to experience

all those emotions, all those

fears you have.”

~ Frank Spotnitz ~

Stacey comes out of the bathroom finally. She sits next to me, “What’s wrong?” she questions staring at my face with concern, rubbing my back.

“I hate men,” I spit out, snapping at her.

“Chill out woman and explain to me what happened.”

“Sorry." I take a deep breath before continuing, "John keeps trying to force me to be with him but I don’t know if I want to be with him anymore,” I say rolling over and facing her.

“Give him a chance Angie, he messed up and he knows that. But playing hard to get won’t solve the problems you have with him.”

“I’m not playing hard to get,” I say getting frustrated with her.

“Okay, okay!” She holds her hands up in surrender. “But go easy on the guy. He still loves you, you know.”

“Ugh fine I’ll try,” I puff out.

“If you don’t want John can I have a piece of him?” Stacey says playfully.

“Stacey!” I slap her shoulder.

“Fine, I’ll take the new guy.”

I don’t know which one it is anger or jealousy; I feel but I don't want Stacey anywhere near Max.

“That man is drop dead gorgeous,” Stacey adds.

I take a quick look at Max as he fiddles with something on his uncle’s computer. He looks at me smirking. I turn away before he sees my face, reddening.

“I just want to do dirty things to that man,” Stacey says.

“Stacey you slut!” I say slapping her arm laughing, but feeling a hint of jealousy at the thought

of her even touching Max.

“Hey everyone come here,” Max says waving everyone over to them by the computer.

“What is it?” Stacey asks hesitating on going anywhere near the computers. I can’t blame her,

she just watched her friend die.

“The aliens, I can’t find them on the security cameras.”

“What does that mean?” I question, feeling a bit of relief as I walk towards the televisions.

“That they may have left,” Max says whispering in my ear again. Startled I step back again; John stands next to Stacey. His face filled with anger.

“Do we leave?” Stacey asks.

“Yes, my child we should leave and soon before they come back.” “Do we even know where we are going?” John spits out rudely.

“Yes, I have a map and a route all planned out,” Mr. Johnson says.

“Okay, when do we leave?”

“Now. Max, fill some duffle bags with food and water. John grab the maps. Ladies go help out Max. We leave within the hour.”

Nodding my head, I follow Max into the kitchen. He throws me and Stacey a duffle bag each. “Stace you grab everything to the left of us, Angie you help me.”

Standing next to Max, I grab anything I can get my hands on and throw it in the bag he gave me. Within thirty minutes we packed as much as possible into our bags that we could fit. Max grabs the bags out of our hands and throws it over his shoulder.
