Chapter twenty-one

Santino

“I think I might have to weigh myself due to all the exercise I’ve been getting. The shower sex had to burn off more calories than I average while running on the treadmill.”

“You have a way with words and are so good for my ego.” I rolled over, taking Jade with me. I loved how her body felt on top of mine after we’d fucked for hours. God, she’s insatiable, but I’m not complaining when I’m the man who gets to enjoy all of her.

She sighed contently and balanced her chin on her hands. “Another thing I love about you is when your green eyes gaze into mine. You probably don’t realize you’re doing it, but it’s amazing. So, my Angel, when you look at me now, I hope you see someone beyond the arrogant man who told you that he would own you on the night we met.”

“You didn’t exactly say it that way,”

“It was pretty close, and no matter how the warning came across, I meant every word. What I don’t have, I usually end up getting. It’s usually always directed toward business, but you are much more than an acquisition. Let me enlighten you if you haven’t figured it out already. It’s not me who owns you; it’s you, Angel, who owns me. Have you given my note any consideration?”

“It’s all I can think about, yet every time I try to talk to you about it, you have a habit of stopping me. Why do you do that?”

“Maybe I’m afraid of your answer?”

“I thought men like you aren’t afraid of anything,”

“You are the exception. Or, maybe I’m afraid of what I will do if I disagree with your answer.”

“Since we met, it’s been about risk and the push and pull between us. Why stop now?”

“Exactly, so will you stay? All you have to do is say the words, and once you do, I’ll take care of the rest.” Her answer was teetering on the precipice of what she wanted and what frightened her most. I was hungry for the words, craving them as if my life depended on them, and in a way, it does. I vowed that I would not tie myself to the life my father carved out for me. She’s the one who will free me from all of it. I was distracted with thoughts running wild that I didn’t realize she had fallen asleep. Her arms relaxed at my sides, with her cheek nestled under my chin. Damn, she was precious in so many ways. How was it possible that I’d found her?

“Angel,” I whispered as quietly as I could manage so I wouldn’t startle her. She made no signs of waking up until I moved us both placing her down on the mattress. Her eyelids flickered slightly until she slowly opened them, and once they were fully open, she smiled. “You scared me, Angel,”

“I’m sorry, I must have been more tired than I realized. You have that effect on me if you haven’t noticed.
