AMPHITRYON

It must be, then, that sleep benumbed your sense,

And that a dream, all full of strange confusions,

Caused you to have these wild delusions

Which you describe as real events.

SOSIA

That’s not true either. I didn’t sleep last night,

Which I still don’t feel inclined to do.

I’m wide awake as I talk to you;

This morning I was wide awake, all right,

And the other Sosia was conscious, too,

As he battered me with all his might.

AMPHITRYON

Follow me, now, and do be still.

My mind’s been wearied quite enough.

I am an ass to let a servant fill

My patient ear with all this foolish stuff.
