Chapter Five
Zarth couldn’t believe his luck. She didn’t find him hideous. He gawked at her body in awe. Perfection was the best and only word to describe her—except for the scars that branded her. Kyle would pay.
His long tongue stroked the back of her knee, and his hands played with the curls on her mound.
“Zarth, I know you’re in there. Open this door now.” His brother, Tirian, banged on a door in the other room.
“Excuse me, baby, my twin brother wants my attention.” He covered her naked body. “Don’t move because I plan to finish what I started.” He inspected her body heatedly, before he left the room.
“Like I’m going to sit here naked while your brother visits—I don’t think so!” She wiggled to the edge of the bed.
Give me the strength to deal with this stubborn female! He watched her reach for her clothes.
“Owww!” The word slipped from her lips.
“Kayla, if you weren’t hurt, I would tan your hide. Tirian, come in,” Zarth demanded over his shoulder. He proceeded to put Kayla back into bed. “I’ll be with you in a minute,” he said to Tirian. “Now stay,” he snarled. “If you want to meet him that badly, cover up and we’ll talk in here.” He threw the blanket back over her body.
“You’re not my boss, and did you just growl at me?” Her eyebrows rose. She crossed her arms over her chest and tucked the blanket under them.
“I might not be your boss, but you’re my mate. I won’t have you hurt. And, yes, I just growled at you. Everyone listens to me.”
“Not everyone, brother.” Tirian asserted when he stomped into the room.
“What do you want, Tirian? You can see I’m busy. If you’re here to warn me about the other gods, don’t, Freya is already on it.” Zarth pushed his body in front of Tirian’s, blocking the other man’s view of his mate.
“Nope, it’s not the gods. It’s our parents. They’re demanding to live here, too, so Freya sent me to help protect her.” Tirian nodded in the direction of Kayla. “I’ve been thinking while watching our parents for the past hundred years, and I swear one of the gods had to have given them emotions, too.” He shook his head. “They say and do things that only someone with emotion would. I’ve talked to Freya about it, and she believes one of the gods has been playing with them.”
“You might be right about that. I’ve noticed some changes also.” Zarth pushed a hand through his hair and paced the room restlessly. He stopped in front of Tirian and clenched his fists. “Shit, can’t they leave me alone? Thanks for the warning. You can leave now. I don’t need help.” Zarth glowered at Tirian.
