A high momentum of forces through the ACL, which could lead to an injury, was reported to be there if the athletes, in a land from a jump, had hip flexed and knee extended or was in an asymmetric position. Among all the variables, the back position in a jump landing was the most predictive element in ACL injuries [28].

Slip-catch is reported to be the main ACL injury’s mechanism in WC. However, in our series (data from FISI—Italian Winter Sports Federation), the most common mechanism remains the valgus-external rotation. In our experiences, the introduction of side-cut skis had increased the number of ACL injuries with valgus-external rotation mechanism and, on the other hand, the new skis with increased side-cut radius have reduced this trend.

Meniscal tears associated with ACL injuries were reported to be around a quarter or half of the ACL tears. This rate in skiers was lower than the one reported by other sports. If ACL and MCL are injured, the lateral meniscus tear is very common. Lateral collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries were rare. They used to be present in knee dislocations in which you always had to suspect a vascular and/or nerve injury [24].
