CHAPTER 11

“My wife is angry at me because of you two,” Taylor said. “She has been trying to find you Apprentice Paul and has been increasingly rude to the fine young men who show up to meet her sister. She even asked about you Apprentice Aiden, and wanted to see if you needed someone to show you around.”

“Do we finally get to leave?” Paul asked.

“Are you in that much of a hurry?” Taylor laughed. “You both have been the center of almost every conversation I have been in. Even Jacob has reluctantly asked if you two were coming back over. I told him that you both declined because you found the young ladies a little too fetching and did not want to get into trouble with me. His wife of course heard about it and told my wife and then I knew it was time for me to leave.”

“Then we are leaving?” Paul asked.

“We are headed to Duke Jett’s estate,” Taylor said. “The reason you are staying away only came out last night. Cinder is in decent enough shape to start flying but will probably walk most of time. No need in rushing his wings through the pain since it is likely that you will try to show off when we reach Duke Jett’s.”

“I have no plans on showing off Master,” Paul said. “Those are the girls I should be settling down with. I do not know if they have better suitors than I am but I know I should at least be in the running. When can I go get Cinder?”

“We can go right now,” Taylor said. “It is still early morning and I doubt the young ladies will bother you too much. Those Soldiers left a good impression of themselves and almost anyone of courting age has a Soldier to write.”

“I still want to sneak in there and get out,” Paul said. “I was almost a fool for letting the lesser born sway me.”

“You can do all of that after you thank Jacob for feeding and putting up with your beast,” Taylor said. “You both are a reflection of me. Your mounts haven’t seen you in a while so they will take some getting used to again.”

“Scratch visits me often,” Aiden said. “We still fly together, when we are done I fly my way and he returns to roost.”

“So that is why the bird insisted on going out,” Taylor said. “Well come on. I brought horses for us to ride back on.”

Aiden went outside and was nervous. He had never ridden on the horse animals and did not know how to control them. Getting on was easy, he was light and strong enough to pull himself up. If that didn’t work he could still fly and get up there. Aiden saw Paul and Taylor get on their horses, Aiden was about to say something but Taylor grabbed his horse’s reins and tied it off to his own mount’s saddle. Aiden thought the ride was nice, it took some getting used to, to be on a horse but Aiden wanted to do it again.
