The steaming cup of coffee in my hand does nothing to improve my mood. After tossing and turning all night, I must look like a raccoon with dark circles under my eyes. I even resorted to wearing my glasses today instead of my contacts.

What do I care about how I look anyway? Today is the day Philip is announcing our engagement, and I still haven't figured a way out of it.

I lean my shoulder against the conference room door, pushing it open. I cringe when I see the only available seat is between Philip and his mother, Madge. I paste a smile and try not to act like I am walking to my death. I know that sounds a little dramatic, but after the experience I had on Saturday night with my three strangers, I don't want to settle for Philip. I want to enjoy life.

Sadness creeps into my thoughts, thinking about Bran, Rowan, and Cael. I wonder what they are doing. Do they make a habit of picking up strange women and taking them home?

I sigh, realizing I was nothing special to them, which earns me a glare from Madge and a growl from Pookie. I do a double-take. Pookie? Who brings a dog to a shareholders' meeting?

"I'd like to thank everyone for coming today. I know it was a last-minute meeting, but I have an announcement to make." Philip pauses and glances at me. I pull my stare from Pookie.

I fight the urge to slouch in my chair praying he doesn't announce our engagement.

“As many of you know, Charming House has always been at the forefront of the fashion industry.” That’s a little bit of a stretch, but no one corrects Philip.

The conference room door bursts open, interrupting the meeting. And as if I conjured them up with my thoughts, Bran, Rowan, and Cael looking just as handsome as I remembered them, stroll through the conference room door like they own the place.

Philip stiffens beside me before standing, "What the hell are you three doing here at my company?" He demands, his eyes blazing, his lip curled in a sneer.

“That’s the billion-dollar question now, isn’t it, Phil?” Bran levels his gaze at Philip. “But I don’t think you want all these shareholders in on our private conversation, do you, Phil?” When Philip doesn’t answer, Bran continues, “I didn’t think so. Your mother and that little rat she calls a dog can stay, but everyone else, out.”

“While I never!” Madge stammers and squeezes Pookie tighter, bringing his lips to hers, rubbing them against his face as he licks her lips with his tongue. I hold in a gag knowing how many times I have had to scold Pookie for eating random poop in the park.

The shareholders bump into each other in their haste to leave the room. I stand to follow them, but Philip reaches for me.

“She stays.” Philip grabs my hand, pulling me to stand next to him. “She is my fiancé.”

Before I realize what he is doing, Philip plants his lips on mine in a quick, forceful kiss that finishes just as fast as it started.
