“But why?” She turns to me and I can see the tears brimming in her eyes. “Why in the world do you want me? I’m a screw-up! I made a huge mistake, and then…well, you saw my boss. You saw her. You could do so much better than me.”

“Andi, look at me.” She doesn’t, and I reach out to gently take her chin and turn her face so that she has to look me in the eyes. She lets out a small gasp at my touch and I have to focus.
