If short on time, you could ask for “popcorn feedback”: ask everyone to say one or two words to sum up what they found most memorable from the day’s session.

Session 1

Introducing Noticing, Values, and Committed Action

Session 1 is intended to introduce the participants—whether clients or caregivers—to the series of workshop sessions, as well as the concepts of noticing, values, and barriers to values. Facilitators will introduce the idea of automatic pilot and lead the group through the mindfulness of breath and body and noticing exercises. The facilitator will then introduce committed actions and SMART goals, after which participants will engage in small group exercises and complete a committed action worksheet. The session closes with a discussion of dates for future workshops. The following session outline suggests an order for the topics and time frames. As always, the times given for each segment are approximate.

Certain elements of the taster session are covered in session 1 because some participants may not have attended the taster session, and these are important elements to discuss. Covering them again can act as a refresher of skills and an extended discussion for those who attended the taster session.
