What to Use and When to Use It

If you’re going to be using thicker gels to build thick layers, begin with gloss sheens and build up to semigloss or matte. Matte will diffuse whatever is underneath it, and gloss will keep it crisp.

If you find you have veiled your painting more than you meant too, add a clear gloss layer to bring back some clarity.

When working with self-leveling gel, dilute it with water to alter the viscosity. If it is applied too thick it will crack.

To create a soft wax look, apply self-leveling gel and let it dry. Then apply fluid matte medium to push back the sheen.
