ABDUCTION Alexandra O‘Hurley 50

Chapter Seven

The following morning dawned bright and beautiful. Kaya woke earlier than normal, having slept fitfully all night. Having spent most of the night going over her options. She was not ready to say goodbye to her only real friend on this world, but over the course of the night, she could not come up with a way to keep him with her. Forced to make a decision, she knew that either way, she would lose Lord Fatel, regardless of if she chose to stay in this alien world with the General or if she turned away and went back to Earth.

She rose and started to take care of her morning ablutions, and heard her lady’s maids come in with breakfast. She walked out to the balcony and sat down before the sumptuous meal, but she had little appetite. She picked at her food for a few moments before dropping her head into her hands, feeling lost and alone for the first time in weeks.

Lord Fatel walked out into the sun beside her and rested his hands on her shoulders. “Are you ready to meet your General, Princess?”

She whipped her head around to face him, anger simmering in her eyes, behind the shimmering of tears she had been on the brink of shedding. “Why didn’t you tell me that I would not be allowed to see you after this morning?”

“Because after this morning you will have your General and you will not need me anymore. What is the point of continuing?”

“I thought you were my friend? I have confided in you while I was here and you pointedly asked me not to push you away weeks ago when I tried to save your worthless hide. I will miss not having you to talk to each day. And you are telling me I mean absolutely nothing to you? Well, then if that’s the case I am glad I won’t have to see you after today.” She hadn’t wanted to sound like an insolent child, but regardless, she did.

Fatel sighed heavily trying to hide the beginnings of a grin at her tone and her apparent care for him. It wasn’t missed. “Princess, don’t pout. You are my friend, and I love seeing you each morning in all your splendor. But believe me, once you meet your General, you will not miss me at all. You are just afraid of what is to come”

Tears glimmered in her eyes at what he said and she knew he was probably right about her fear of her future. It didn’t mean it made her goodbye to him any easier. After a hug that lasted longer than it should, Lord Fatel pulled her face into his large warm hands and kissed her on her nose, her cheek and kissed the tears away from her eyes.

They said their goodbyes and he pulled away to leave her for good. He looked over his shoulder as he walked towards the door and smiled, “You will always be my Princess.
