The next day dawned with a Lottie seated at the cozy breakfast table in the sunlit kitchen, her notes spread before her like a map waiting to be deciphered. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the tantalizing scent of banana bread, creating a comforting ambiance within the room, especially with Max snoring at her feet.

This morning’s map was all about Thomas Wilson, the owner of the lumber company.

Chiko materialized, hovering over the keyboard. His furry little translucent paws splayed over the keys. "Any new discoveries? What have you learned about Thomas Wilson?"

Lottie exhaled softly, her voice filled with a mix of intrigue and contemplation. “For starters, he's deeply in debt, and his desperation for money is palpable. But the question is how killing William Sinclair would solve his financial woes."

"Perhaps Thomas might have resorted to threatening Vincent with a similar fate, hoping to extract the money he believes William owed him."

Lottie nodded, her fingers tracing the lines of her notes as if hoping to uncover a hidden path. "It's a possibility. William’s nephew does have a lot of pull with the company."

As Lottie took another bite of her breakfast, her eyes never strayed far from her notes.

"I'm going to give Wilson's alibi a call right now," she said, picking up her phone as she made sure pen and paper were close by. "There's got to be more to this story than what I'm currently seeing.”

Each ring felt like an eternity, resonating through the air as she waited for the voice on the other end to answer. Finally, a click broke the silence, and a deep, resonant voice filled the receiver.

“Hello? Who is this?”

"Good morning, this is Lottie McCreel from The Tybee Tribune speaking. I'm calling regarding Thomas Wilson's whereabouts on the day of William Sinclair’s death," Lottie greeted, her tone tinged with a mixture of hope and trepidation. She cleared her throat and forced herself to sound more neutral. "May I ask who’s speaking. please?"

The man introduced himself. The voice on the other end belonged to Mr. Johnson, the owner of the property in Savannah where Wilson claimed to have been that fateful afternoon. Lottie held her breath, her eyes fixed on a distant point as she listened intently to Mr. Johnson's response.

"You looking for an alibi, Ms. McCreel? Well, I can assure you that Thomas Wilson was indeed in Savannah that day," Mr. Johnson declared with unwavering confidence. "He was working on a project for one of our clients, and I personally saw him at the site."

Lottie sighed. "Thank you, Mr. Johnson. I appreciate your prompt response. If you happen to recall any unusual behavior or circumstances surrounding Thomas's visit, please don't hesitate to reach out," Lottie requested politely before ending the call.

“He was in Savannah, I gather from the look on your face,” Chiko said.

“Of course he was. What was I thinking?”

“That you had this same situation with Deuce Smith’s murder?”

Lottie looked at the ghostly squirrel thoughtfully. “You mean, the fact that Savannah is so close
