Hawk is working the bar and Troy is guarding the door, it’s packed to the limit for a bachelor party we’re hosting this afternoon. We had to lock the doors to prevent any walk-ins. With Tiny laid out, the remaining girls need to do an extra set each until I can find a replacement.

The front row is getting a bit rowdy, and I watch Dom saunter over, cracking his large knuckles. My eyes are near closing as I glance around the top areas, my concentration not really here. It’s on the man who’s scarred more than physically, and the excitement of seeing my best friend.

Tempest texted me an hour ago saying she just landed, and she’d try to be here around closing, so now I’m just counting down the hours. I need to feel her arms around me and breathe in her citrus scent. I miss her so fucking much, but I have to begrudgingly admit, Raiden would protect her with his life.

Still, it doesn’t lessen the anxiety I feel knowing she’s leaving behind the security of Dominica.

I make my way over to Troy, his large arms crossed over his chest making his biceps bulge larger than my head.

“I’m going to go check on Tiny, you guys got this for fifteen?”

He gives me a quick nod, and I head down the back corridor, coming to the large, steel industrial door. With a look over my shoulder, I punch in the code and listen to the mechanics unlock. I thought Temp went a bit overboard with the security upgrades before, but now I appreciate them.

I pull open the door and shut it behind me, hurrying up the stairs to see if Tiny is okay. She was moaning about the ankle this morning and saying she’ll probably have to amputate it, asking me if it’ll kill her pole vibes.

With a chuckle I open the door to the apartment and stop when I hear a familiar voice.

“You need to ice it, so put this on it.” His growl is filled with authority.

“You could have poisoned that.” Tiny retorts, “you Devil humpers are always looking to off someone in the name of that horney asshole.”

“It’s a bag of peas, you idiot.” He sounds astonished with her logic, and I quickly cover my mouth to stifle a laugh.

“I heard your daddy is flying in today, are you going to get a spanking?” Tiny just has a way with words, and I love hearing her when she really latches onto a target.

“You’re sick.”

“Nah, I’ll be okay, like you said, it’s just a little sprain.” She chuckles.

“You’re sick in the head.”

“Says you,” she snorts, “so, will he use his hand or a belt?”

“I’m out of here, this was the worst idea.”

“You love her?” Tiny asks.

White static hits my ears, and everything slows down as my heart stalls in my chest. I want to hear the answer and at the same time I want to turn on my heel and run. But it’s too late, he strides toward the kitchen, stopping in front of me at her question, his eyes meeting my widened ones.
