Addolgar stood over her, hands on his narrow hips. âHow can you be comfortable all stiff like this? With your clothes on?â
âIâm cold,â she reminded him, desperate not to take her clothes off. Her human body was not something poets would ever write about, so she wasnât about to get naked in front of Addolgar, of all dragons.
âThatâs what the fur covers are for. Youâll get under them and with the fire going, youâll be fine.â
âIâm fine as I am right now.â
âAt least take your boots off.â
To appease the big ox, Braith sat up, but before she could touch the leather of her boots, Addolgar was there.
âIâll do it,â he said cheerfully, smiling at her.
He tugged off first one boot, then the other. He then pulled off her socks and lifted her feet, studying them.
âI thought theyâd be bigger.â
âHow is that not an insult?â
âItâs not an insult. Or a compliment. Just an observation.â He thought a moment. âBut your feet are cute, and that is a compliment.â
Laughing, Braith pulled her feet out of his grasp. âMy boots are off. Can I go to sleep now?â
âI donât think so.â
âWhy not?â
âYouâre not relaxed. Who can sleep when theyâre not relaxed?â
âIâll relax eventually.â
âAt least take your leggings off.â
âI will do no such thing.â
âYouâre being as silly as humans about this.â
âThatâs my choice.â
âWell,â Addolgar said, âmy choice is for you to be comfortable.â
And thatâs when he grabbed the bottom of her leggings and began to yank them off.
âAddolgar!â
âYouâll thank me when Iâm done.â
No, she wouldnât!
Braith tried to scramble away, but she only managed to assist him in getting her leggings off while, at the same time, flipping herself off the blasted bed.
Growling, she got to her knees and rested her arms on the bed. She glowered up at the beast. âGive me back those leggings!â
âIâm trying to help you.â
âI donât know what youâre doing, but Iâm sure there are laws about it!â
âI donât know why youâre being so shy.â He paused a moment, then asked, âDo I make you nervous?â
âYes!â Braith replied honestly.
âWhy?â
âI just . . . look, just . . . I mean . . .â She slammed her fist against the bed. âGive me my blasted leggings!â
Addolgar studied her for a bit before he surmised, âYou donât want me to see you naked.â
âLeggings.â
âDo you think Iâve never seen a human body before?â
âLeggings.â
âDo you have a few scars you donât want me to see?â
âLeggings!â
âFine.â Addolgar tossed her precious leggings behind him and began to toe off his boots.
âWhat are you doing?â she asked.
âGetting naked.â
âWhat the hells for?â
âSo you can be comfortable getting naked, too, so we can get some sleep.â
âHow would that make me feel comfortable? In what universe would that make me feel comfortable?â
âYou can see my scars.â
âI donât want to see your scars!â
âThereâs no shame in scars. The more scars you have, the more respect you get from the Cadwaladrs.â
âAddolgarââ she began, but her words were cut off when his chain-mail shirt hit her in the face.
âDammit!â she barked, yanking the shirt off and tossing it to the floor.
