Lana wasn’t lying about having to change everything. Our entire harvest party was based around the idea that our demon guests would be able to snack on the pride directly from the humans. But now that we were no longer allowed to hold a party like that… We were in deep trouble. We had to move the demon event to a new date, which ideally would’ve been a day after the human party but with Helloweek, that just wasn’t possible. Almost all the staff had made plans for their week off to return to Hell and even if we found servers, most of the demon guests would’ve been away too.

“The closest we can do is the day after Helloween,” I remarked, turning the laptop towards Lana to show her the calendar.

“But that’s a full week after Halloween.” Lana rubbed her temples. “Pride just doesn’t keep that long. I suppose we could freeze it but it’s not the same. The customers will be able to taste the difference and that won’t be good for our reputation. We could move the human event forward as well, but I don’t think we’ll have as big a crowd and we need every party guest we can get or we won’t have enough pride to harvest.”

“There’s no other option though. Triss is off for the full week, so is Trevor. Hester and the others have plans too, I heard them talk about it earlier. Helloween is the first available date.”

With a dramatic sigh, the other woman softly thudded her head on the table. “Fine. We’ll just have to make it work. We’ll do simple amuse-bouches for the humans and have drinks at the bar so we don’t need servers.”

I nodded. “It’ll be all hands on deck to harvest pride at Halloween so you’ll have to be on the floor too.”

“That’s fine. It’ll be fun to celebrate Halloween with you.”

My chest fluttered from her intense look and I quickly turned my attention to my screen. “I guess I’ll start calling our demon customers to let them know the event date has changed.”

“Sounds fun,” Lana joked as she got up. With a little drum on the table, she gestured to the kitchen. “Guess I’ll leave you to it. Got to feed the hungry demons or there will be a riot."

I chuckled. “Yeah, let’s avoid those.”

"Have fun calling people.” With a little wave, Lana left me alone in the Unforked Tail.

Right now, the space looked open and tranquil, despite the excessive amount of red and white feathers everywhere. With the nice polished floors and the large windows bringing in a lot of natural sunlight, it was hard to believe that a month ago this had been a dusty old storage room. After a lot of work, we’d transformed it into this cosy but glamorous and modern party room with a dance floor for the humans and a raised section for our Very Important Demons. Not that we’d get to use it after the inspector’s ruling.

I’d have to think of a way to repurpose the platform.
